Are modern day Jews descendants of Khazars?
Often, anti-semetic propaganda is spreading rumors that the modern-day European Jews are not the ancient Israelites, but are the descendants of the Khazars. This claim is very foolish due to the following reasons.
1.Today's European Jews have Kohenim and Leviim. The status of a Kohen or Levi can only be passed by father's genecology. A convert can never be a Kohen or a Levi. DNA testings have confirmed Kohenic tradition (see Torah and Science).
2. The Khazar's nation as a whole did not except Judaism. It was only the king and his close relatives that adopted the Jewish faith. The prove comes from the fact that, unlike ancient Jewish synagogues, ancient Khazarite temples of Crimea show no traces of Mezuzot.
3. In a famous letter to Rav Chisdai, King Joseph of Khazar writes "...I dwell alongside this river... Jews, Christians, and Moslems live in the second city..." From here we see, that people of many religions lived in the Khazarite kingdom.
In the same letter, King Joseph describes his genecology. He writes "Know that we are descended from Jepheth, through his son Togarmah. I have found in the genealogical books of my ancestors that Togarmah had ten sons. These are their names: the eldest Ujur, the second Tauris, the third Avar, the fourth Uauz, the fifth Bizal, the sixth Tarna, the seventh Khazar, the eight Janur, the ninth Bulgar, the tenth Sawir. I'm descendant of Khazar, the seventh son" So the claim that the ancient Khazars are the nation of Magog is also false, proven by this letter. Magog was the second son of Jepheth, while Togarmah was the son of Gomer, Jepheth's first-born.
